Petroglyph Games is a Las Vegas-based company who resigned from Westwood Studios after Westwood Pacific was assimilated into DICE Los Angeles by Electronic Arts. One of their signature game engines is the Alamo Game Engine that was used to their games like Star Wars: Empire at War and Universe at War: Earth Assault.

Conan Unconquered is a departure from what fans are accustomed to the epic series. This game is the first real-time strategy genre set in the ancient land of Hyboria. Players are tasked to build an impenetrable stronghold, as well as assemble an invincible army. They can expect savage hordes coming from every region of Hyboria. There are multiple important things to take note in order to survive: enemy invasion, resource management, the discovery of new technologies and recruiting armies. Resources like food, wood, iron, and gold are vital for building and repairing infrastructures such as homes, temples, and barracks. The stronghold can be upgraded with walls and lethal traps to keep enemies at bay. The army recruitment begins with few foot soldiers and they can grow stronger by acquiring Hyborian warriors. They require training, payments and feeding them like real soldiers. In this way, they become stronger than ever before. Enemies spawn in waves similar to the strategy game “They Are Billions” so players have to play smarter in order to last longer. Some of the enemy waves range from footmen to elite warriors, siege weapons, necromancers, giant serpents, and even demons. These enemies will be relentless against unprepared players. The other looming threats in a perfect kingdom are uncontrollable fires and even diseases from the piles of corpses. Necromancers can take advantage of the dead by raising them into hostile units. The strategy game has single player and two-player co-op mode. Players can cooperate and build infrastructures and build combined armies for a unique multiplayer experience. Everything players built and researched are shared to make army building faster. There is also a pause option for quick breaks, issuing commands and building new infrastructures. The strategy game includes Legendary Heroes which took inspiration from Warcraft III. Heroes are stronger than ordinary units and their presence can change a battle’s outcome. Conan is one of the recruitable heroes in the game. The heroes can be equipped with artifacts that can be acquired by further exploring Hyboria. The other highlights players can discover in this game are randomly-generated maps, ruins with treasures and bosses, and powerful Hyborian gods like Mitra. Long-time fans of Conan the Barbarian will be able to recognize them.
Warlords of Hyboria
Conan Unconquered lets players take command of the legendary warriors of Hyboria. They no longer peril themselves with the threats, instead, they control heroes and crush waves of terrifying enemies and beasts.
